Chiggers

I wanted to share an old Army trick that we used to do in the field. If you do enough hunting or stomping around in the woods, you will eventually meet our friend, Chigger. A chigger is a little bug that burrows in your skin, causing it to swell, turn red and itch. They leave a little hole in your skin so they can get air. How you kill the little darlings is pretty easy. Suffocation. This is done by applying fingernail polish over the Chigger “Bite”. Do this a few times and it will kill the Chigger. However, in my experience, the redness will stay with you for several weeks until the little guy is absorbed. This is the most effective way to handle them. Sounds strange, but it DOES work.
