Have you ever thought of Prepping chicken wire? Here is my main reason for brining this up. During the Balkan Wars, there were many roaming gangs in the cities. The cities were surrounded by the enemy who hoped to starve them out. Thus civility breaks down and groups of people were desperate to fulfill their needs at the expense of others. A common tactic used by these gangs to gain entrance was this. They would throw a homemade explosive in the window of a house, and the remainder of the group would kick in the back door. The explosive was a diversion. Easily thwarted by putting chicken wire on your windows…Prepper Dashboardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14848260867674825409noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5398500666210640078.post-50840567808837088022016-04-11T14:43:00.000-07:002016-04-11T18:31:08.120-07:00SHTF Garden Plan

Even if SHTF does not happen this year, you NEED to make sure you have a vegetable garden! I have heard rumors of skyrocketing food prices this year! So get your garden started. Here are a few tips.

1)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Learn how to, and use, composts.
2)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Make your garden as big as you can sustain. Make sure you can water it, or have an alternate way to water.
3)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Layout your garden on paper. Determine what types of plants will grow better in shade vs sunlight.
4)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Have an alternate way to cultivate. If you don’t have a cultivator, get hoes, hand weed pullers, shovels,…etc. If it runs on gas, don’t depend on it.
5)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Fence and/or protect your garden area.
6)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Grow only the types of food that you and your family will eat.
7)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Be ready to can and or store your food. If you can’t keep it good, no sense in growing it.
8)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> If you have room for a garden, you have room for an herb garden. Take one of your flower beds and make it an herb garden. Grow food taste enhancers (ie..basil), and medicinal herbs. Get on the net and learn more!
9)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Grow roses in your flower beds. Rose Hips are edible!
10)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Tell no one what you are doing. Op Sec is key to not having thievery.
11)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> If you don’t have room for a large garden, then learn micro gardening, and bucket gardening. Grow in buckets the plants that produce year round. Take them inside in the winter.Prepper Dashboardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14848260867674825409noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5398500666210640078.post-38163253170985033332016-03-29T16:30:00.000-07:002016-04-07T13:14:56.361-07:00Fooling Metal Detectors (Who Are After Your Stash)If anyone out there uses the PVC tubes to stash your caches of “Prepping Items”, here is a thought. Metal Detectors WILL be able to pick up on your metal cans, knives and weapons. What is a good way to prevent your stashes from being found? Here are a few helpful tips. First and most important, bury the tube vertically. Stand it on end. The top should be no less that 14 inches deep. This will give a smaller surface area for detectors to find. Dig out a big circle. About 3 feet across by 18 inches deep. Dig your tube hole in the center of this circle. Cover it with 4 inches of dirt and rock. This will make the 14 in deep circle flat. Now, in this 3 foot area, spread around a lot of different junk metal. Old rust nails, electrical box knock-outs…etc. Cover this with 4 to 5 inches of dirt. Repeat the junk metal and dirt process until the hole is flush with the surrounding ground. Put the grass (if any) back on the surface and make it look as undisturbed as possible. This will discourage a wood-be metal detective from finding your stash.

Another way to do this is to cover the end of the cache tube with an asbestos sheet. This prevents the signal from the metal detector form penetrating down and finding the metal. However, we all know that asbestos is dangerous, so I do not use this method. I bring this up as an FYI only.Prepper Dashboardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14848260867674825409noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5398500666210640078.post-47015933962151671072016-03-21T15:52:00.000-07:002016-03-21T14:29:25.468-07:00Prepping PantsWhen we talk Prepping, everyone likes to talk about Food, Water and Guns. I know I do. Here is something that might need a little thought on your end. What kind of post SHTF pants are you going wear? Silly question, right? Maybe not. I was in the Army for 6 years and love my cammies. However, do you want to walk around in camouflage and announce to all non preppers that you might have something that they want. You might as well carry a military back pack and an AR 15. You want to blend in. Be a Ghost, be a gray man. My advice for Prepping pants Baggy, comfortable jeans. I have Camo’s prepped, but only for hunting.

Lets discuss the next thing the “Powers that be” will try to restrict. Body Armor. Body Armor is broken down in to several different classes. Cheaper Than Dirt describes them like this…

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;">The most important thing to understand is that there is no such thing as a "Bulletproof" vest.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;">There are varying levels of bullet-resistance as standardized by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ).

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , "sans-serif"; font-size: 9pt;">Personal body armor covered by this standard is classified into five types (IIA, II, IIIA, III, and IV) by level of ballistic performance.

Preppers, here is a free survival book that you can download from another site. This book is really great. I am not associated with them at all. I just wanted to share this. Save it, and print it. It just may save your life.
Know your dinner. One of the most plentiful wild game in my area is “Groundhog”. Woodchuck. Whatever you want to call them. Being a skilled hunter is to know your prey. I have included a picture of the tracks made by a Groundhog. Study it, know it, use it. These animals make burrows in the ground. About 10 to 12 inches in diameter. They like to eat all sorts of plant life. Look for the tracks around natural watering holes or creeks. They are easy to trap. I would do a snare set around their natural paths and near water. If you are hunting them, let’s just say they are not the Einstein of the animal world. If you see one and it scurries away, just freeze. Wait a minute and make a sucking sound softly, with your lips. Like you are kissing the air. Groundhogs will stand up on their back legs to see over the grass. Curious of the noise you have made. Then pull the trigger….meat on the table.

Every Prepper should garden. Especially with the predictions of outrageous Food and gas prices this year. Not everyone lives in the boonies and are able to have a 2 acre garden. However, you need to investigate the terms micro-garden and container gardening. Grow lots of edibles in limited spaces. My rule of thumb is, if you are land locked and can’t go horizontal, go vertical. Check out this pretty informative site to learn more than you ever wanted to know…

To make this homemade antiseptic, you will need regular sugar and 10% Povidone Iodine. Use the amount of sugar that you want your finished product to be (example, a cup of sugar will make a cup of Sugardine).

Mix one part 10 percent povidone-iodine with sugar (1 cup of sugar to 1/10th cup of the Iodine) Mix thoroughly.

Add a little more or less to give it the thickness that you desire. I like it a little thicker but easy to spread.

Put this mixture in a sealed container and store for later use. It will settle over time so give it a good mixing now and then.

Disclaimer - I am not a doctor so please use at your own risk. However, we have used this for years with good results.

Before all heck breaks loose, and the internet is turned off, you should get to know your Bug Out Location, intimately. Google Map the area, and surrounding areas. Print them and keep a copy safe. You will need to know where water and cover is located. Where you can “Set up shop”. My BOL is my LAST resort. I am going to stay in place for as long as possible. I have too many preps to just get up and leave them for scavengers. Like I said, Map it, Print it, and Study it. Do this BEFORE you need it!
Did you know that the very important Garlic plant can be used for cough syrup? Peel and crush 4 cloves of garlic. Blend the crushed cloves with a tablespoon of honey. Take one teaspoonful 3 times a day. Garlic honey is great as a sore throat remedy as well. Also, it will keep the vampires away…lol.Prepper Dashboardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14848260867674825409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5398500666210640078.post-47384772943588665062016-02-19T14:23:00.000-08:002016-02-19T17:35:06.229-08:00Knife Fighting

Every Prepper worth his sand has a knife. In extreme situations, do you know how to effectively use this tool/weapon to save your life. If not, one good use is to strike your enemy with a slashing motion. Your target is one of the main veins or arteries. A good sharp knife and a little strength behind it and you will have success. Slash Hard and Deep. You will make one heck of a mess, though. Also remember, even if you sever one of these life-lines, your enemy has a good 1 to 2 minutes where they can still deal you harm. Make the cut, and step back. Keep them at bay until they have “Bled Out”. I included a picture of the circulatory system so that you can learn these areas. Here is to hoping you and I never need to use it on another human being!

Here is a cool site that tracks NOTHING about what you are looking at on line. It is called "Duck Duck Go" and Start Page. Works like Google, but without the "Gubment" being in your business. It works like this...
One item that is hit or miss with preppers is “Night Vision”. Is it worth a good chunk of your prepping budget to buy? I can’t answer that. Just remember, with night vision, you “Own the night”. Use to get around. See people coming before they see you. Check your traps easier. There are several types of night vision. I use a gen II plus monocular. The only drawback is that it takes special batteries that I have to stock up on. However, if you look hard enough, you can find Night Vision units that take good old AA batteries. If you had some rechargeables, and a solar charger, you would be in pretty good shape. Here is a good breakdown of the different classes of Night Vision. Be aware of this when purchasing…

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "sans-serif";">"Myth vs. Fact: Generation 4
Some say that generation (Gen) 4 is the most advanced night vision you can buy. This is not the case. To dispel this myth, let's start with the basics. There are four Generations of night vision; however, they are Gen 0-3, not Gen 1-4. Historically, the U.S. Army has defined each Generation of night vision. In the late 90's the Army did define Gen 4 as the removal of the ion barrier film creating a "filmless" tube. This new advancement was to reduce halos while increasing sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and resolution, for overall improved performance. While performance was improved, the lack of an ion barrier in Gen 4 tubes led to high failure rates, ultimately leading the U.S. Army to recant the existence of Gen 4 definition. Recognizing the high failure rates of Gen 4 tubes, ITT chose to improve upon the existing Gen 3 technology and create a "thin-filmed" tube. By keeping the protective ion barrier, but greatly reducing its thickness, ITT was able to maintain the reliability of Gen 3 while—at the same time—delivering on the Army's performance requirements intended for Gen 4. This innovation resulted in the production of the Gen 3 thin-filmed tube, which is now the highest performing Gen 3 tube available."

A lot of Preppers have gas masks for themselves and their families. However, unless you are prior military, I doubt you know how to put it on correctly. Meaning you need to “Clear” your mask once you put it on. Prior to breathing. Think about it. A potentially harmful Radioactive, Nuclear, or Biological material has been released. You put on your mask and start breathing. Wasn’t your mask full of these contaminants before you put it on? Here is how to do it properly…

1)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Hold your breath and close your eyes.
3)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Put your hands over the exhalation vent to seal it.
4)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Blow out hard. You will feel the air escape around the edges of the mask.
5)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> When you are almost done with your exhale, remove your hand to clear the filter and keep exhaling.
6)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Before you take a breath, put your hands back over the vent to prevent air from coming in the filter.
7)<span style="font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal; font: 7pt/normal "Times New Roman";"> Suck in, you should feel it tighten around your face, and no air coming in.
Your mask is now correctly sealed and you can open your eyes. Unless you follow and practice these steps, don’t waste your time getting one. It will do you and your family no good.
