Topo maps are basically a 2 dimensional rendering of a 3 dimensional world. The Topo Map displays hills, mountains, rivers, buildings, mines, natural features…etc. Some of these things are not on a normal “Road Map”. In the Army, these were the types of maps that we used. We could figure vantage points, saddles and draws to determine where to set up camp, ambushes, make hidden trails…etc. So, in other words, when the Brown Stuff Hits The Fan, make sure you have Topo Maps of where you will be bugged out or in, as well as your regular road maps of the area.
